Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae is a musical journey to Jamaica’s Golden Age of music, rocksteady featuring music and stories of the legendary singers and musicians of the Rocksteady era. The film brings the artists together after 40 years to record an album of Rocksteady hits and tell their music filled stories along the way, ending in an all-star reunion concert in Kingston, Jamaica. With such performers as Hopeton Lewis (Take it Easy) Dawn Penn (You Dont Love Me Anymore, No No No) Wilburn Stranger Cole (Love me this Evening), Marcia Griffiths (Tide is High); Ken Boothe(Shanty Town, 007), Derrick Morgan (Tougher than Tough), Leroy Sibbles (Equal Rights), U-Roy (Stop That Train) and Judy Mowatt (Silent River Runs Deep), who, with Marcia Griffiths and Rita Marley, was part of the I-Threes, the legendary backup singers for Bob Marley. The film features a mix of studio recording sessions at Tuff Gong Studios, rarely seen archival footage from the period and interviews with the performers as well as taking us to the most beautiful parts of Jamaica, drawing a colorful and enriching portrait of the founders of this great musical heritage.
